I have a bachelor's degree from University of Illinois at Chicago in Elementary Education. I received my master's degree in reading from Olivet Nazarene University. In addition, I am certified in gifted education and recently returned from a conference this summer learning about new reading and writing strategies.
Experience
Currently, I work as a 4th grade teacher. I have 17 years of teaching experience, which most of those years were spent teaching students in the primary grades. My expertise is teaching: print awareness, sounds of speech, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, spelling, comprehension, and writing. My goal is to increase student achievement, diagnose students' strengths and weaknesses, and connect with my students. I like working with students--listening to their thought processes and helping them overcome their stumbling blocks. A successful session is one where the learner can gain the confidence they need to complete the problem or assignment and increase their knowledge in a particular subject area.
